Five Richmond speed skaters medalled at the BC Winter Games this weekend.
Richmond Rockets athletes brought home 11 medals at the amateur sporting event held every other year in Quesnel.
On the first day of the event, Alivia Lam won silver in the U14 female 1,500-metre skate and Tilman Astor also won bronze in the U16 male 500- and 1,500-metre skating events.
Matthew Kam won bronze in the U16 male 777-metre and 1,000-metre races on the second day of the competition.
“We are so proud to have such a cohesive and talented team represent our region,” said Alexander Teh, president of the Richmond Rockets.
“To have skaters compete in the combined meet for the age cohorts of the current 2024 and the cancelled 2022 Games shows their determination.”
Teh also thank the help of Nicole Garrido’s High Performance Division at the Richmond Olympic Oval, Rocket coaches Christopher Poljer-So and Sophie Beriault and Max Thibault, provincial coaching coordinator.
