Our acknowledgment of the quiet pride that all parents have for their children as they continue to develop as athletes and young officials, and for their support and guidance.

Our deep appreciation to our capable officials for sharing their expertise and experience with all of us in the advancement of our sport of Speed Skating.

And of course, our gratitude to all the volunteers who gave so freely of their time in order for this event to be as successful and as popular each and every year!

Dear Coaches, Officials, Volunteers and Skaters.

We are looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday, February 15th, at the Richmond Olympic Oval, 6111 River Road, Richmond BC, V7C 0A2

  • Registration Desk Opens – 6.30 am Parking Lot Entrance Walkthrough.
  • Walk-through with Chief Referee at 7:00 am. Please meet at the on-off gate area.  (Meet coordinator, chief starter, chief track steward, chief clerk of the course, safety personel)
  • Officials at Coaches & Officials Meeting – 7.15 am in Room 2005
  • No on-ice Warm Ups. However, you may do dryland warm ups in areas away from the marshalling area please.
  • We will be utilizing Sportity during our meet.  Please download the Sportity app on your phone.  Updates of schedule, races and results will be communicated through this app.  Sportity Password – RROC25

Active Start Skaters need to arrive at: 11:00 AM.  Please check in at the Hospitality room 2005 and ask for Alex Teh (Meet Coordinator) or Jhenifer Pabillano (Assistant Meet Coordinator).

**Full day volunteers, coaches and officials will be provided with credentials for the hospitality room. This room is off limits to skaters and all children. Please refrain from taking plates of food out of the room.  It will violate our agreement with the Richmond Olympic Oval.

Skaters, please note the change rooms are not secure, do not leave valuables unattended. We have a lot of skaters to fit in each room so please leave large bags with parents in the stands and keep change rooms clean.

Teams are reminded to keep all walkways clear. Any items found in violation will be removed.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend.

Richmond Rockets Oval Challenge 2025 Meet Coordinator

Format

SANCTION: SSBC sanction

FORMAT: Ability Meet. This will be the last meet to improve on or acquire your qualifying times for the BCST Championships in March.

  • BCST Age-eligible skaters include Pre-Youth to Masters age class categories as of June 30, 2024.
  • There will be 4 races per division.  Distances will be age-class appropriate.
  • PLEASE NOTE – distance races may be subject to change.  Guaranteed 4 races for each division. This is an ability meet.  Some skaters may placed in a division above/below, based on their 400m/500m seed times.  No requests of a skater racing outside of their age category race requirements.  Eg, a club/youth skater skating on a 111.2m track.
    • Club Skater (5-10 yr)/ Youth (11-13yr)
      • On 100m track. Heat/Finals. Superfinals. Distances based on BCST bulletin.  A full day of skating.
    • Neo-Jr (14-15yr)/ Junior (16-17yr)/ Seniors (18-28yr) /Masters (>29yr) age category
      • On 111.2m track.  Heat/Finals, Superfinals.
      • 500m/ 777m/ 1000m/ 1500m – distances may be subject to change
    • Active Starts – as per their respective club coach’s recommendation. Skating is scheduled during lunch hour.  Maximum 6 skaters.
    • RELAYS – If time permits, relays will be scheduled at the discretion of the Chief Referee.  Coaches will be informed of the format at the time of draft schedule is released.

TRACKS: 100m and 111.2m

REGISTRATION FEE: $60 per skater ($30 for Active Starts)

DEADLINES: 

  • Registration Deadline: January 30th, 2025 @11:30pm PST
  • Waitlisted skaters – must register within 24hrs from receipt of invitation to register.  
  • Scratch deadline is February 8, 2025 @11:30pm PST.  No refunds after this date.  Processing fees are non-refundable. 

Skater Registration Instructions

  • WAITLIST:  If registration is full, please click on the WAITLIST option to add your name to the waitlist.  After registration is closed, we will review the skater registration numbers and will contact you when a spot(s) becomes available.
  • SEED TIMES: From SSBC Look-up database.  January 1, 2024 to February 1, 2025.  If you are a new skater, coaches will be contacted and times at practice will be accepted.
  • Out of Province Skaters: you will require liability insurance from your association and your medical coverage.
  • Registration closes on January 30th, 2025 at 11:30 pm PST.

Volunteer

Parent Volunteer Opportunities and Instructions

  • Register as a volunteer for the meet in IceReg to ensure that all volunteers are insured during the competition.  Must have a current SSC/SSBC membership status.
  • A volunteer membership is required. Non-Richmond Rockets members who are not yet members will be redirected to their Club registration site.  You will then register as a member to acquire an SSC ID (with your respective club first) and this will enable you to register as a volunteer at this event and future SSBC and SSC-sanctioned events this season.
  • Sign Up Sheet for volunteer positions.  Minimum age – 16yrs
  • Lunch is provided for full-day registered Officials, Volunteers, and Coaches on our Master list. Last-minute add-ons will be at the discretion of the Meet Coordinator.
