There are many opportunities to connect, participate, and skate this off season! Learn about the latest across the province below:
I CAN SKATE FAST (Instructor Training) – Virtual, July 27, 2023, 7:00pm
I Can Skate Fast! is SSBC’s outreach program to expose elementary school-aged children, in a variety of settings, to the sport of speed skating. The program may have a secondary benefit of recruiting participants into existing Learn to Speed Skate programs.
The program is comprised of three lessons:
1. Let’s Learn About Speed Skating!
2. Let’s Try a Speed Skating Race! (off-ice)
3. Let’s Speed Skate! (on-ice or inlines)
Each group of participants should be exposed to Lessons 1 and 2; Lesson 3 is optional depending on the setting.

SUMMIT PERFORMANCE CAMP – Calgary, August 7-12, 2023
Join the fastest short and long track skaters (ST, LT, or hybrid program options) ages 13-19 from across the country at the Summit Performance Camp at the Calgary Olympic Oval. Early bird registration is open.
ELITE WEEK #2 SPEED SKATING CAMP – Richmond, August 28-September 2, 2023
Elite Weeks are designed for advanced club level speed skaters who want to improve passing strategies, develop speed and other sport specific race tactics to support individual training goals.
ACADEMY – LONG TRACK FALL 2023 – Fort St. John, September 22-24, 2023
The season gets underway with a focus on technical skating and group training events (like team pursuit) with SSBC Provincial Coaching Coordinator Maxime Thibault and SSBC Strength & Conditioning Coach Jennifer Gibson. The training camp is open to skaters ages 10-18 and coaches to earn professional development points to the Coaching Association of Canada.
