Medal haul for Richmond Rockets on home ice

The Richmond Rockets speed skaters used their home ice advantage and their crowd of supporters to bring home medals in the first big test of the 2024-2025 season.
The BC Cup of Short Track Speed Skating took place Nov. 22 to Nov. 24 at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
In the women’s youth division, Alice Yaxuan Guo won the overall gold in the women’s 12-year-old group. Carly Bastien won the overall gold in their women’s 11-year-old youth division.
Magnus King won the overall gold and Ethan Leung took the overall silver in the men’s 13-year-old youth division.
In the men’s youth 11-year-old division, Linus King won the overall bronze.
In the club division, the Rockets swept the podium in the men’s 10-year-old division with Skyler Jino Chu, Anbo Wang and Jayden Li winning overall gold, silver and bronze, respectively.
Also in the club women’s division, sisters Kailey Wong and Gianna Wong captured the overall silver medals in their age groups, 10 years old and nine years old, respectively.
In the senior women’s (adult) division, Shione Francis won the overall gold and Katya Zadorozhnaya won the overall silver medal.
The Rockets are coached by former Richmond speed skaters Christopher Poljer-So, Daniel Lakusta and Quirin Teh.
Richmond Rockets president Alexander Teh thanked all competitors, their families and all the volunteers who made this BC Cup the largest competition on record.
“With 164 qualified skaters, it was very gratifying to host this many deserving skaters and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of the community and the Richmond Olympic Oval, our generous sponsors and donors,” Teh said.
“Congratulations to our medalists and to all our athletes who qualified and competed in the 2024 BC Cup of Speed Skating.”
