Richmond Rockets celebrate outstanding results at the BC Short Track Championships

The Richmond Rockets delivered an exceptional performance at the BC Short Track Championships, held March 14–15 at our home rink, the Richmond Olympic Oval. With 14 athletes representing the club, our skaters demonstrated remarkable speed, skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the two‑day competition.

We proudly recognize all 14 athletes who competed: Aidan Lapierre, Anbo Wang, Calden Wong, Corey Chou, Ellie Leung, Gianna Wong, Jayden Li, Jayden Wang, Jocelyne Chene, Kai Kwon, Kailey Wong, Kynton Poon, Seri Lee, and Skyler Chu. Every athlete contributed to a strong and inspiring showing on home ice.  We also extend our sincere appreciation to our coaches, officials, volunteers, and parents for their support and dedication throughout the event.

Personal Bests & Division Highlights:

• Kai Kwon 9‑year‑old Male – Gold, with personal bests (PBs) in 400m and 800m
• Gianna Wong 10‑year‑old Female – Silver, with PBs in 200m, 400, and 800m
• Corey Chou achieved PBs in the 200m, 400m, and 800m
• Jayden Wang recorded PBs in 400m and 800m
• Calden Wong posted PBs across four distances, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1000m

• Kailey Wong 11‑year‑old Female – Silver, with PBs in 800m, 1000m and 1200m
• Seri Lee 11‑year‑old Female – Bronze, with PBs across 5 distances, 400m, 800m, 1000m, 1200m, 1500m
• Ellie Leung placed 4th overall, with PBs in 800m, 1000m and 1200m and 1500m
• Jocelyne Chene recorded PBs across four distances, 400m  800m, 1000m, and 1200m

• Anbo Wang 11‑year‑old Male – Gold, with PBs in 400m,  1000m and 1200m
• Skyler Chu 11‑year‑old Male – Silver, recording PBs in in 400m,  1000m and 1200m
• Jayden Li 11‑year‑old Male – Bronze, achieving PBs in 400m,  1000m and 1200m
• Kynton Poon earned PBs in the 800m, 1000m, 1200m, and 1500m

Looking Ahead: Rockets Representing BC at Nationals

We are thrilled to share that several of our youth skaters have been selected to represent Team BC at the Canadian Youth Short Track Championships West, taking place March 26–28 in Winnipeg. This selection reflects their hard work, perseverance, and outstanding performances throughout the season. We wish them the very best as they compete against top skaters from across Western Canada.

Once again, a heartfelt thank you to our coaches, officials, volunteers, and families—including those who travelled from across the province to support this event. Your commitment helps create meaningful opportunities for our athletes and strengthens our speed skating community.
